New International Routes to Bogotá and Medellín Announced for 2026

Three major carriers have announced new or expanded direct routes to Colombia in 2026, making the country more accessible from North America and Europe than at any point in its history. The additions signal growing confidence in Colombian tourism and offer travellers more booking flexibility and, in some cases, significantly lower fares.

American Airlines Expands Bogotá Service

American Airlines added a fourth daily departure from Miami to Bogotá’s El Dorado Airport (BOG) in April 2026, making it one of the most frequent US–Colombia routes in operation. The carrier also launched new service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Bogotá three times weekly beginning in May. The DFW route opens a new gateway for travellers in Texas, Oklahoma, and the wider central United States who previously had to connect through Miami or New York.

El Dorado is American’s primary hub for Colombia, and the airline has also increased codeshare connectivity with Avianca, Colombia’s flag carrier, allowing smoother onward connections to Cartagena, Medellín, Cali, and the coffee region cities of Pereira and Armenia.

JetBlue Launches Bogotá–New York

JetBlue began operating between New York JFK and Bogotá five times weekly from June 2026 - its first Colombia route. The launch brings JetBlue’s competitive pricing and Mint business class to the corridor, which is likely to increase downward pressure on fares across the New York–Bogotá market. JetBlue’s entry is particularly notable because its leisure-focused model tends to stimulate demand among first-time visitors who might not have previously considered Colombia.

Iberia Adds Medellín Frequency

Iberia increased its Madrid–Medellín service from three to five weekly flights in June 2026, citing strong demand from Spanish-speaking travellers in Spain and connections from the rest of Europe. Medellín’s José María Córdova Airport (MDE) handles the route, and the additional frequency makes it viable to visit Medellín on a direct itinerary without routing through Bogotá.

The Iberia expansion also benefits travellers connecting from other European cities through Madrid, as it effectively extends Spain’s Oneworld alliance reach into Antioquia.

What This Means for Fares

Increased competition on the Bogotá and Medellín corridors has already begun to compress prices. Published fares between Miami and Bogotá were running approximately 15–20% below their 2024 levels during mid-2026 booking windows, according to fare comparison data. Advance purchase fares of under USD 350 return from Miami and under USD 550 from New York were available in June 2026 for travel in the September–November low season.

Travellers monitoring prices should check fares 8–12 weeks ahead for the best mid-range return fares, and consider travelling outside the December–January and June–July peaks when prices climb sharply due to domestic Colombian travel demand.

Planning Tips

If flying into Medellín, note that José María Córdova is located about 45 km from the city centre - a taxi or rideshare takes approximately 45 minutes and costs around COP 80,000–100,000 as of mid-2026. Bogotá’s El Dorado is closer to the city, roughly 15 km from the Zona Rosa.
